What is FoodShare?

FoodShare (SNAP) program helps Wisconsin residents buy nutritious food. Each month, money is loaded onto a QUEST card, which can be used at grocery stores, farmers’ markets, and select online retailers to stretch your food budget.

    The QUEST card works like a debit card and is loaded with your FoodShare benefits on the same day each month. You can use it at most grocery stores, select farmers’ markets, and for eligible Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) shares and Meals on Wheels!

  • FoodShare is Wisconsin’s food assistance program. Each month, money is added to a QUEST card (works like a debit card) that you can use to buy nutritious groceries for you and your family.

  • In order to enroll in FoodShare, you must:

    • Submit a FoodShare application;

    • Complete a quick FoodShare interview with a case worker either over the phone or in person;

    • Meet basic eligibility rules and income limits.

  • You can use FoodShare benefits to purchase most groceries, including fresh fruits and vegetables, milk and dairy products, meat, poultry, fish, bread, cereal, pantry staples, infant formula, baby food, non-perishable items, and even seeds and plants that grow food for your household.

  • FoodShare benefits cannot be used to purchase pet food, household or personal care items, medicine, vitamins, supplements, alcohol, cigarettes, or tobacco products.

  • Quest cards can be used at most grocery stores, convenience stores, major retailers like Target and Walmart, farmers markets, dollar stores, and community supported agriculture (CSA) programs such as FairShare CSA.
